Ceramic Handling & Inspection Machine

Genesis was hired to create a handling system to present parts to an off-the-shelf line scan topology camera system. The parts to be handled are sheets of precision ceramic substrate, ranging widely in both size and thickness. Genesis was required to singulate parts to be presented to the camera - with both major surfaces visible simultaneously.

Our machine is able to unstack and present parts of all required widths and thicknesses with no manual adjustments – all adjustment is precisely handled by the Beckhoff controls system – resulting in a machine that is largely free of operator error, and capable of running unattended as long as the infeed and outfeed is managed. Rejection of parts that fail inspection is handled by an Epson SCARA robot which can gently separate rejected parts without damage for use as lower grade product or for further inspection. This machine operates in a continuous motion paradigm, stopping only when it is out of parts, or the outfeed is full.
